Why Best Buy Sucks

I need help. Am I making a poor choice?
Here’s the dealio yo:
Best Buy screwed me over. Sorry Eric. The Geek Squad screwed me over. I took my under warranty computer in for repairs. They said it was a software problem (not covered by a warranty). I paid to have the software fixed. I picked up the computer and paid for it…and then…AND THEN…they told me that the reason for the original error that I brought the computer in for was a faulty hard drive. It was not a software problem, it was a hardware problem. Hardware that was still under warranty.
So I told them I wanted my money back. They said “how about a free hard drive?” I said no. They said “how about a gift card” I said no. They said “take a hike” and I said ok. I said no because I’m disputing it with my credit card company. I’ve never done that before. Am I an idiot? Should I take the gift card? What if the dispute fails? Can I call them back and ask for my money back?
Help me
Best Buy sucks balls.
No seriously, they do…literally.

best buy does suck. dont feel bad for poor little eric, he doesnt work there anymore and hes known that they suck for many many moons. i would dispute it with the credit card company…unless you can go back and keep raising hell and go higher and higher up the ladder until a GM or someone gives you your cash. (i think it may be easier than messing with the credit card co.) best buy will give you what you want if you bug them enough. thats my 2 cents.

Yeah they did something similar with my laptop. I specifically questioned the salesman about the warranty, and asked if they would cover it being dropped, and he said, “yes,” but when my room mate knocked it off the coffee table (where I was dumb to put it) they refused to repair it. Actually, they told me that they would have repaired it if I had lied about how it had been damaged. Nice.

    It’s time to get a Mac. That’s all I have to say…

At all retail-type stores, if you bitch to the RIGHT people, you get what you want. I agree that you should go through the store, but try to get at least the store mananger if not the District or General manager (which ever is higher).

Geek Squad is a marketing ploy – that’s it. 90% of the time they don’t know what the hell they are doing, and have to read the instructions that anyone can get off the manufacter’s web site. They make you feel warm and cosy about buying a crappy computer so that when it breaks you have an “expert” to help fix it, but their “experts” are hourly schmoes who have about a week of training.

If you didn’t get what you want (and think is fair) keep moving up the chain of command until you get something fair, then buy a Mac.
